Prairie Style
1. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
Frank Lloyd Wright revolutionized the way houses were made. He came up with the "prairie style" home. He got away from the standard boxy house and created a natural, flowing and open floor plan. He rethought the way houses were organized, meaning the places the certain rooms were located.
2. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?
I think Frank Lloyd Wright kind of went away from what was written in the text. I feel like the text was kind of the basics of architecture. He revolutionized architecture. The only thing I could link to the text was the post and lintels which is just the standard framing.
3. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of Architecture?
I like this video because I learned more about how Frank Lloyd Wright really came up with his buildings. He put so much thought into each room. He wanted the whole house to flow into each other. It shows how many different styles can be used architecture.
4. Why did you choose the films that you watched?
I chose Prairie Style because it is about Frank Lloyd Wright. Since we have some of his creations around here, I wanted to learn more about him.
Last Call for Planet Earth:
1. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
There is so much we can do to help the environment even though people do not believe it. There are many different ways we can make energy that we are not using. We could be cutting our energy use by 20-30% by using these sustainable energy sources. One way a building can save a lot of energy is the window placement. If you place windows on the correct side lots of natural light can come in and putting smaller well insulated windows on the north side can help save energy.
2. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?
This video kind of stated everything that was in the text relating to the "green movement". It listed and talked about all the different ways we can save energy, reuse products and using more sustainable natural resources.
3. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of Architecture?
This film was good, however, with people speaking different languages it was harder to follow. I had to replay some parts a few times so I could really grasp what they were saying.
4. Why did you choose the films that you watched?
I chose this film because I am interested in the "green movement" we have started. There are so many sustainable ways to help the environment. I hate when I am out and I see new office buildings or homes being built when there are so many vacant ones around collecting dust.
